FAQ
Q) Are you really a mermaid?
A) Do you believe in mermaids? I am as real as you believe.
Q) Where does the name Salacia come from?
A) In Roman mythology, Salacia was the goddess of salt water and wife of Neptune. She was believed to represent the calm sea, which is the most likely time you will spot a mermaid in the water!
Q) How much does it cost to have you at an event?
A) Prices vary depending on the type of event, travel time, hours required, and also take into account the cost of maintenance on our gear. A general starting point is $150 for a 1 hour popup or party. Please email or use the contact form for a quote.
Q) Where do you announce your events?
A) Events are announced via facebook. Surprise pop ups are just that, a surprise! These events are announced usually a few hours before the event. Public events that feature me will be posted on the website, facebook, and other social media.
Q) You have a couple of human helpers at your events. Why?
A) Simply put, Mermaid life is difficult. We need help to move around on dry land and to keep us safe. During underwater gigs, Mertenders make sure we are getting enough air and are safe in the water. Mertenders are a non-negotiable and will be at Mermaid Salacia events.
Q) What other social media do you have?
A) Facebook and Instagram are my main social media platforms. However, I do have a YouTube, twitter and tumblr.
Q) I like your tail! Where did you get it?
A) Thanks, I grew it myself with a bit of magic from Mernation, Inc. in America. You can find their website here: http://www.themernation.com/
Q) How much does your tail weigh?
A) My tail weighs about 15kg and it feels heavier when it is wet! I have a strict exercise routine throughout the year to help me power through the water.
Q) Your tail looks different in your photos. Whats the deal?
A) I have had two tails. When I was a guppy I used a black fabric tail. I now use a black and gold silicone tail by MerNation.
Q) I want to be a mermaid! Do you sell mermaid tails?
A) No. However, there are many great tail makers out in the world. My tail is by Mernation. Please remember that becoming a mermaid is a long process. You must be a strong swimmer and never mermaid alone.
Q) What qualifications do you have?
A) I have a DCSI clearance to work with children and have undergone Reporting Abuse and Neglect Training. I am currently studying a teaching degree in my human disguise. My next goal is to gain my freediving certificates and first aid certificate.
Q) Do you have public liability insurance?
A) Yes, I have all relevant insurance for my work. If you are enquiring about booking Mermaid Salacia and would like to see the certificates of currency, please email me.
